Throne and Liberty: How to ride the Gigantrite, the giant flying whale

I’m sure you saw the giant whale flying in the sky over Solicium and thought “how do I get on that?”. Have you tried it yet? Did you make it? If you haven’t managed to take a whale ride yet, this guide will help you do it.

While watching a ride on the Gigantrite you will also complete “Little Friend in the Sky” from Nesting Grounds’ Exploration Codex. But come on, I know that what really matters to you is to take a whale ride and have one of the most spectacular views of the game.

How to ride the Gigantrite

Gigantrite does not land, ever. So you need to go up to hop on it’s back. To board the Gigantrite, you must climb to the top of the tall tower of the Starlight Observatory Ruins (view on map). Wait for Gigantrite to get close enough, jump and glide to get on its back.

Gigantrite Spawn

The appearance of Gigantrite in Solisium is announced with a message to the whole server and you will also receive a buff increasing Mana Regen. Gigantrite seems to appear every 3 hours, but this information has not been confirmed yet, so for the moment stay alert for Gigantrite’s appearance message.

Once you have mounted on Gigantrite, look for the Powerless Doll to complete the Codex. The whale is big, but you have plenty of time, look for the doll, interact with it and you’re done.

Gigantrite Lore

Gigantrite sails alone through the sky, so as you might guess, this is going to be an interesting but rather sad story.

Gigantrite is known to be a member of one of the oldest of the mystical ancient species. According to an ancient text, an entire clan of this species once existed, only to have gone extinct save for this sole individual. It should be noted, however, that there is an account of a fisherman witnessing another of these creatures at sea.

Gigantrite is intimately connected with the flows of Mana, the element that makes up nature. It neither eats, nor sleeps, but rather accumulates energy by slowly absorbing the Mana in the atmosphere. The Mana in the atmosphere was much richer in the days when the gods were said to have walked among us, and Gigantrites of the time were known to have soared through the sky each day, absorbing sufficient energy as they followed the movement of the sun. Gigantrites also played a role in providing vitality to other creatures, circulating the flow of Mana in nature, and purifying darkened energy.

However, soon came the shattering of the Star of Sylaveth and the era of endless wars. This soon caused Mana in the atmosphere to become turbid and dim, which ultimately led one Gigantrite after another to return to the sea and perish. It is said that the last living Gigantrite missed the rest of its species so dearly that it succumbed to an endless slumber near an island emanating a strong aura of Mana. Thousands of years have passed since then, and the existence of the Gigantrites has long remained little more than a legend in Solisium, akin to tales of giants and dragons.

About 20 years ago, a lone Gigantrite was spotted once more around Whisp Island. People considered it a good omen; a sign that an age of peace was sure to come. It became a tradition to say a prayer for peace whenever the Gigantrite was witnessed flying high up in sky. Though this Gigantrite once had two horns, one of them was broken. Some say it was the work of an ancient giant; others say that it was the recent work of Arkeum. However, there are no credible theories as to the cause.
